Welcome To Battle Squadron – The 2013 ReMake Update
Welcome to Battle Squadron Remastered. 2013 Saw a remake of the old Amiga blockbuster classic, and it’s good, very good!

The wait has been long, but it’s finally here—Battle Squadron is back on the Amiga! Originally released in the late ’80s, this legendary classic returns in a faithful yet enhanced edition. While the core game remains beautifully intact, new features like online leaderboards, achievements, and subtle visual/audio upgrades help it shine on modern displays—whether you’re using an LCD, LED, TFT, or even a Plasma screen.
Welcome To Battle Squadron Remastered…
It’s no secret that new Amiga releases are few and far between these days, but 2013 has already proven to be an exciting year. Thankfully, when the games do come, they’re really good—and Battle Squadron is a perfect example of that. The original Amiga 500 version was a technical marvel back in the day, earning rave reviews and a dedicated fanbase. This new release captures that same magic, and the few updates that were made only enhance an already excellent experience.
This re-release is available as a stunning boxed collector’s edition, which includes all available versions (excluding iOS and Android), and even comes with a poster. While I’m still waiting for my boxed copy to arrive, I’ve been enjoying the downloadable version—and it’s every bit as good, minus the physical goodies I can’t wait to get my hands on.
And let’s not forget the soundtrack—Battle Squadron features one of the most unforgettable scores in Amiga history. The moment I saw screenshots on the official site, I found myself humming the tunes, even though I hadn’t played the game in over a decade! It’s one of those timeless soundtracks that sticks with you, right up there with the likes of The Giana Sisters and Super Mario Bros.
This is more than just nostalgia—it’s a celebration of Amiga gaming done right.
The Boxed Version Arrived Like This!
Alright, let’s talk about performance. Battle Squadron runs silky smooth at 60 fps in full 1920×1080 resolution. It includes V-Sync, shadows, and visual filters, and even sneaks in the original intro (hidden away in the settings somewhere!).
It also features a fantastic 2-player mode, full keyboard and joypad support, and best of all—it works perfectly on my 10-year-old AmigaOS4 machine. What more could you ask for?
Well, maybe Amiboing’s achievement system could’ve been integrated—grrr—but that’s a small gripe in an otherwise stellar package.
See you all on the leaderboards! I’m loving being number 1 right now, though I’m sure that won’t last long. Or will it?
