New Game: Summer Stars 2012
Always been a huge fan of sports games like these, in hindsight this might not have been the best of the lot but for sure one of of the them I enjoyed a lot while it lasted…
**A new game showed up in my mailbox today. My backlog is already overflowing, but this is exactly the kind of game I just can’t put on hold.
The developer, 49Games, has had its fair share of critics over the years—and to be fair, I was one of them back in the day when they were releasing some pretty underwhelming titles. That said, things have changed. Since around 2009, they’ve really stepped up their game, and their newer releases are proof of that.
Summer Stars 2012 features 18 events, all presented in an arcade style—so don’t go in expecting realism. The graphics are still not much more than “good,” but the gameplay makes up for it. Controls have improved significantly compared to last year’s Summer Challenge, and the overall design feels much more polished.
After about three hours of playtime, my first impression is very positive: it’s a great game to enjoy with friends (I played together with my girlfriend), and it manages to be surprisingly challenging—even on the easy difficulty.**
