LittleBigPlanet is one of the major franchises for the Playstation and to me one of the very few that appeals to the whole family. There is Invizimals and Ratchet & Clank too but those don’t fit for the whole family.

When people think of family gaming, Nintendo will most likely be mentioned first even though the PlayStation has had gazillions of proper family games over the last 20 years, Eyepet, Crash Bandicoot, Buzz and so on.

Exclusive Family games on the Playstations are so far between that one comes out it is most likely not as good as it should have been, no competition does that. The Puppeteer looked like it would have been the ultimate family game, but it turned out to be scary and too annoying to be fun. With so few family games and brands the only thing they can is to milk them dry, 11 Ratchet & Clank games for the PS3, 3+1 LittleBigPlanet games and a myriad of Singstar titles.

Run_Sackboy!_Run!_1aOk so over to the second LittleBigPlanet game on the Vita, this is one of those typical mobile games (iOS, Android) and my first reaction was, no! not another crap mobile type of game for the Vita. There is a gazillion of these type of games out there and on the Vita alone, probably 10+ by now.

I have always liked the LBP franchise and while i think that the series has taken a bad turn story wise, they are still kick ass good fun to play both alone and together with others.

The most positive things about this little game is that:

  • Free
  • Music from LBP 1
  • Graphics from LBP 1
  • Addictive

As soon as i started the game and heard the music, happiness! , the graphics are bright and clear and not dark and moody as some of the other titles in the series (especially LBP 2 and the PSP game).

Sadly there are quite a few negative things about the game too,

  • Pay to win or grind to death.
  • Trophies require you to pay actual money it seems.
  • Laggy , bad fps at times.
  • The jump between levels.
  • Random level structures which ain’t random.
  • Myriad of slow menues.
  • Loading times = long!.
  • Touchpad only!.

I managed to get to stage 4 last night, quite fun but very difficult!. I think i managed to level up my game to 16 too, yet again hard and time-consuming. I think the game is fun but i hate how it turned out slow and such, this is a major franchise, why not support it properly and not this kind of rush title.

The game came 6 months after the mobile version, amazing!.

Have fun, it is at least free.

  1. Welcome to modern gaming, F2P and P2W, all games want to be candy crush or clash of clans and make the money they do. Only thing i think is these games arent games they are time fillers to play when your away from the main event. Bloodborne or this? No competion, maybe its different for others but these “games” can and never will replace real games. Im sure there is something for everybody including casuals.
